The Arun week: 3 to 9 Feb

Feb 8: Mild after rain but with a breeze developing in the afternoon with morning and afternoon sessions in woodland including Water, Screens, Sherwood Rough and Dalesdown: 2 Firecrests, 4 Goldcrests, 1 Marsh Tit, 2 Bullfinches, 7 Buzzards, 3 Kestrels, and 4 Mandarin.
Feb 7: Cold, with frost and mist by the river east and north of Arundel: 1 Peregrine, 2 Reed Buntings, Chaffinches and Nuthatches in song along the Mill Road.
Feb 6: Mist obscuring the river south of Arundel this morning reduced the species count, with 9 Snipe, 8 Skylarks and 4 Reed Buntings the highlights.
Feb 4: Afternoon look at the Black Rabbit field, Offham, and WWT produced an electrifying ten minutes of activity at 1.55pm at the Black Rabbit field, with a Barn Owl, Marsh Harrier, 3 Red Kites, Kestrel and ringtail Hen Harrier appearing in rapid succession. In the background a Grey Heron was busily rebuilding its nest. From Offham the three Bewick's Swans eventually revealed themselves in a network of hedges and ditches, while at WWT there were 2 Water Rails, Kingfisher, Wigeon, 5 Little Egrets and 83 Greylag Geese.
Feb 4: Morning dog walk by the Arun east and north of Arundel produced 280+ Lapwings flying purposefully north and an Oystercatcher loitering opposite WWT - one of the local breeders already back? Also a Peregrine, Red Kite, and five Bullfinches.
